Exploring Problem-Solving Methods
I believe everyone faces various problems and challenges in their work and personal life. How do you solve these ones? Do you randomly conduct solutions that come to mind?
Probably not. You likely choose the optimal solution within the given conditions, limited time, and resources, and then take actions.
In the latter half of this session, I would like you to think about solving problems and challenges in your own life and surroundings.
When considering problem-solving strategies/tactics, please refer to the following 5 steps. Of course, you don’t need to follow every step.
1. Confirming Assumptions
Clarify the background and conditions of the problem. Confirm definitions and goals, and organize the points of discussion.
2. Current Situation Analysis
Understand the current situation and identify the problems.
3. Identifying Bottlenecks
Identify the root cause of the problem and clarify the points that need improvement.
4. Planning Improvement Measures
Think of solutions and create a concrete plan. Generate multiple ideas and compare their advantages and disadvantages.
5. Evaluating Improvement Measures:
Evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed solutions. Consider costs and feasibility, and choose the most effective solution.
Share the problems and challenges you or your company are currently facing. (About 5 minutes)
Problem/Challenge Solving Challenge (Around 25 minutes)
Please choose one of the following topics your group would like to work on.
And then, present the most effective or unique measure, explaining the problem/current situation, solution, and reason to everyone at the end of the discussion. Please speak for up to 2 minutes.
Discussion topics: “the problems/challenges mentioned in (1)” or “one of the following two case studies”. Whichever is fine!!
A. “How to Increase the Probability of a Second Date?”
It is not too much to say that dating apps have gained acceptance as a tool for meeting people for the first time. Some of your friends or colleagues might be dating or even married through dating apps. However, according to a survey, more than 90% of men and women do not want to go on a second date. How can we increase the probability of a second date?
B . “Increasing Voter Turnout in the Next Election”
The voter turnout in the U.S. presidential elections has ranged from 58.6% to 66.9% between 2004 and 2020. The recent Tokyo gubernatorial election had a turnout of 60.6%, and the House of Representatives election had a turnout of 53.1%. These turnout rates suggest that public opinion is not fully reflected. Please propose solutions to increase voter turnout in national or prefectural elections.
<Rules>
Regarding “B”, please think of measures other than making voting mandatory.
It is prohibited to use Co-pilot or Chat GPT to come up with solutions. Current situation analysis is allowed.
Do not deny others’ opinions without any reasons.
