Sponsorship

It has been a year since the Tokyo Olympic Games were held. During it, you must have seen a lot of message such as “we support Olympic 2020” by sponsoring companies. It might be that companies spend more than a billion yen to be the official sponsors of the Olympics. Why do companies spend a lot of budgets to be sponsors? How is it different from just advertising?

Sponsorship is much more than an outfield sign at a baseball park or a logo on a racecar.

For example, Tokyo Disney Land introduces the corporate sponsor system that participating companies can have their corporate name displayed at the attractions, restaurants, and parades that they sponsor. Outside the theme parks, corporate sponsors can use of the Park’s logo and images on their advertising materials and TV commercials. They can also use Park tickets and merchandise for their company’s publicity and sales promotions.

Another example is the J-league. The Cerezo Osaka, a J league team, fans got a ¥500 yen ($4.70) discount if they ordered from the sponsoring food delivery company while watching a match from home.

From those examples, sponsoring companies may appeal about them more flexibly than just advertising.

I want to hear your opinion about sponsoring in the discussion.

<Question>

Q1. Do you know good examples of sponsorship?

Q2. What do you think is the key to successful sponsorship?

Q3. If you are in charge of advertising E’s club, which events or facilities would you like to sponsor? How would you appeal E’s club?

Don’t worry about the budget for this question. Please share your group’s answer end of the discussion.

How do you learn and acquire something new?

We keep learning and acquiring new things in our lives, especially at work.

I’ve just started a new job and I have to keep learning new things and acquiring new skills. Some of you might have new staffs or subordinates and you might have to develop their knowledge and skills. Some of you might have something you enjoy learning besides your job. (ex. sports, art, etc…)

Sometimes acquiring new things can be challenging because you need to not only input new knowledge but also connect what you’ve learned to your output.

There are many methods of acquiring new things out there. For example, there is the idea called “守破離” in Japanese traditional martial arts field. What is your own method/process of acquiring something new?

<Question>

Q1. Do you have any experience of acquiring new things at work or in your daily life? What was the most difficult part of acquiring new things? Please share your experience.

Q2. Do you have any experience of teaching new knowledge to someone else at work or in your daily life? What was the most difficult part of teaching? Please share your experience.

Q3. Please explain your process of acquiring new things. What are important things for acquiring something new?
