≪FIRST HALF≫

<Agenda>“Which work style is the best for companies?”

The covid-19 pandemic caused much change, especially work style to me. The company I work for had allowed working from home for only a few employees before the pandemic happen. However, the state of emergency changed the situation dramatically, meaning that almost all employees were encouraged to do remote work from last year’s April. Now, I work at home mainly and go to the office once a week.

Apparently working from home is upsides and downsides. Some co-workers said that it was tough for them to do it because of their feeling of loneliness and lack of face-to-face communication. That situation made me think about what work style is suited for our team.

There are three kinds of work styles which are working at the office, fully remote working, and Hybrid. Working at the office is easy to communicate with co-workers. Working remotely is said to be fit for concentrating on work. My team chose a hybrid work style since some people prefer to work at the office and others do not. Is it the best choice for our team, although each work style has positive and negative points? So, today I would like you to discuss work styles.

<Questions>

1. What work style did you do before the pandemic of the covid-19? Had work style changed after it?

2. What work style do you prefer? And why?

3. What work style is the best for post-pandemic? Please take all positive and negative points you’ve enumerated into consideration. I would like you to decide the best work style in your group and share it after the discussion.

 (Optional) 4. What kind of online social event do you want to organize for socializing with co-workers?

≪LATTER HALF≫

<Agenda>“Who’s Getting The Most Sleep?”

Six months ago, I was given a research paper at work and in that paper I came across interesting data about average sleeping hours worldwide.

According to the research paper; Japanese people sleep for 7.20 hours on average, meanwhile, French people sleep for 8.20 hours on average – I found this to be very surprising.

There is another article that says that the sleeping gap between countries is more than likely due to cultural and social factors.

https://www.google.co.jp/amp/s/www.statista.com/chart/amp/4845/countries-in-which-people-are-getting-the-most-sleep/

A good example would be:

Japanese people, on average, work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week while French people work a minimum of 35 hours per week.

Having said that, we have to think about the relationship between sleeping hours and our well-being.

Upon reading the research paper about sleeping hours, a few questions came into mind.

Here is the list of the questions:

 <Questions>

1. What are your thoughts on the findings of the study?

Do you find it surprising that French people sleep almost 8.20 hours per night?

2. Some Japanese think that having less sleep and working longer hours seem cool. Do you agree?

3. Do you usually get more than six hours of sleep per night?

How much sleep do you think people really need?

4. This video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO-YCbGHtxk talks about the relationship between sleep and health.

Did you know anything about the relationship of sleep and health prior to watching the video?

After watching the video, how do feel about your sleeping habits? Do you think that you should change your sleeping habits?
