<Agenda>It is not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent, but the one most responsive to change

It is safe to say that 2020 is one of the most unforgettable years in our life. COVID-19 has had an impact on our life to a greater or lesser extent. Some people lost their jobs, others were not able to receive a bonus which was given as usual. On top of that, we were not able to go abroad, go for a trip with our friends and family and even enjoy a drinking party with a large number of people. Anyhow, all people have been spending a tough time which they had never experienced before.

During that time, there was not only a negative change. The pandemic has brought us a few positive aspects. One of them is remote work. Majority of companies or organizations have implemented the remote work system after the Japanese government declared a state of emergency. Thanks to the system, we have not needed to go to the office by train or car so that we have gotten to be able to save a certain amount of time. We could call the transition “Every cloud has a silver lining.” Perhaps, there are some people who tried something new by taking advantage of the time.

As long as we live, we have to cope with some unexpected and unprecedented situation like the COVID-19 pandemic. Otherwise, we are not likely to survive in the modern society. So, we need to have flexibility in any situation.

In the first discussion of the year, I would like you to look back on last year. In addition, I would appreciate it if you could share your new year’s resolution. I would be grateful if you could talk a lot and ask some questions proactively as like a mouth exercise.

I hope everyone will be able to achieve your targets and plans by the end of the year. Also, I strongly hope everyone stays healthy.

Questions

1. Could you share what you were thinking to try in 2020, but you were not able to do due to COVID-19? (e.g. Go abroad, enjoy entertainment, take an examination, try something new, etc.)

2. Could you share what you were able to achieve in spite of the unexpected situation in 2020?

3. What kind of skills do you think would be necessary to overcome some difficult situation like the COVID-19 pandemic? Either tangible or intangible skill is fine.

※Please share your group’s opinions.
