International Women’s Day

Have you ever heard of International Women’s Day (IWD)? IWD is a special day dedicated to the advancement of women worldwide. Celebrated by millions of people on March 8, IWD honors the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women. The day also serves as a call to action for accelerating gender equality. Additionally, it is known for the tradition of giving mimosa flowers.

With IWD approaching, I encourage you to reflect on gender equality in the workplace, as it is a crucial issue for everyone.

<Question>

1.      How does your company recognize International Women’s Day?

2.      Who is a woman that inspires you, and why?

3.      Have you noticed any improvements in gender diversity and inclusion in your company over the years?

4.      What is one change that could help create greater gender equality in the workplace?  Please share your group’s opinion after the discussion.

≪LATTER HALF≫

Post-truth

In 2016, the Word of the Year in the United Kingdom was “post-truth,” and recently, an event reminded me of this word.

Post-truth is a term used to describe a situation in which emotions and personal beliefs have more influence on public opinion than objective facts. In a post-truth era, people often prioritize feelings and ideology over verifiable evidence when forming their views. The concept of post-truth gained popularity in political discourse, highlighting how misinformation and emotional appeals shape public perception.

Social media plays a significant role in the post-truth age, where false or misleading narratives can spread faster than factual information. Therefore, we should be wise enough to think critically and rely on evidence-based facts. I would like you to reflect on how we can achieve this through this topic.

<Question>

1.      Have you ever prioritized personal beliefs over evidence-based facts? If yes, please explain your experience. If not, how did you avoid it?

2.      Why do people increasingly prioritize personal beliefs over evidence-based facts?

3.      How can we become evidence-based facts beliefs instead of post-truth one?
