[今週のマテリアル]

<FIRST HALF>

TOPIC: 「10年後の自分」(What will you be doing ten years later?)

I’m Y.O.

I’ve belonged to E’s club since this February and always enjoyed the workshop because I do not only learn English but also can meet new people and know something new from them.

I feel that most members who I met at the club are diligent and highly motivated.

Their great experience and ambitions always benefit and stimulate me so this time I chose

「10年後の自分」(What will you be doing ten years later?) as the topic for first half.

I hope that everyone has some plan or ambition for your future, large or small.

For example, to hold an administrative post or to work abroad, or to run your own business and so on.

However, we usually hesitate to tell someone about our plans or ambitions because we are not sure whether we can carry out our future’s plan,

but I often hear that if you tell someone or write about your plan (or ambition), it gets closer to realization.

I agree with that so why don’t we reveal the hidden plan to everyone??? Then, let’s share them with each other and among the group!!

(PROCEDURE) ※Before starting, please read all instructions.

1. Make pairs in your group and named A, B and C for each pair.

2. Work in pairs.

1)Tell your partner about “your plan (or ambition) of ten years later” in detail as much as possible for three minutes.

2)After the presentation, your partner can ask you a few questions if she or he needs more information. (It takes a few minutes.)

3)Switch positions and repeat 1)~2).

(mention)

・Please try not to stop speaking while you give a presentation to your partner.

(ノンストップでパートナーに3分間話続けて下さい)

・The listener should take memos when the speaker gives the presentation.

3. After all pairs finish No.2, please get back to your group.

4. Start from pair of A. (It’s OK that starter is from B or C.)

Please present “the partner’s plan (or ambition) of ten years later” in your group.

5. B and C make a presentation after A.

6. Judge which pair works well and vote the best one among the group.

※If there is still time, please enjoy an exchange of your views in the group.

<LATTER HALF>

[Agenda]

How should Japan deal with poverty?

[Questions]

1. What do you feel through reading the article?

Have you thought about “poverty” in Japan?

Did you regard Japan as an “all middle class society”?

Why or why not did you think so?

2. Why do you think the relative poverty rate in Japan is worsening?

Economic downturn, social policy, globalization etc….

3. According to the article, Japan’s relative poverty rate

is one of the worst in international comparison.

When you compare Japan with other OECD countries

which has better number than Japan has,

what is the difference?

4. How should Japan deal with poverty?

Japanese government seemed not to have taken much action on poverty so far.

Should the government change policy from

“individual responsibility” to “social welfare”?

If the government changes the policy and spends more budget

on social welfare, we would face tax raise to cover it.

Could we support that?
